Drupal's many advantages over proprietary CMS's

This is a great blog from Dries Buytaert (founder and lead of the Drupal CMS, co-founder of Acquia, and co-founder of Mollom, a service that evaluates content quality and stops spam) about Drupal as a valuable content management system (CMS) over proprietary (non-open source) CMS's. The article discusses InterMedia Outdoors' (the premier outdoor sports-oriented media group in the U.S.) decision to switch from the proprietary CMS, FatWire, to Drupal and Dries speaks with InterMedia Outdoors' CIO (Chief Information Officer - the head of information technology), Howard Stevens, about some of the specific reasons why. Dries points out in his blog that "many of the proprietary content management systems are difficult to customize, expensive, hard to set up, and slow to adopt new trends." In their discussion, Mr. Stevens mentions that "the primary reason that we selected Drupal is the extensive flexibility that it provides us to enhance our sites over time."
