Apple releases Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

The new Mac OS -- 10.6 Snow Leopard -- has been released from Apple (on my birthday incidentally - thanks Steve!). When I heard about it back in June as part of the Apple WWDC keynote, I was very excited. Claims were that it simply improved upon the current OS so that apps will run faster, the core OS will actually take up LESS disk space, and it would only be $29 to upgrade. Having installed it, I would definitely say I am pleased.

1 of 1

All built-in applications (Mail, Safari, iCal, iChat, and Finder for example) are now 64-bit applications. This means slightly faster launches and opening of files among other performance enhancements. Also, now the Mac OS supports Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, which essentially means that instead of using Outlook (bleh) to access your email, calendar invitations, and contacts, you can now use Mail, iCal, and Address Book. Good stuff.

These are just a few enhancements. Along with these are countless developer-related advancements and tweaks. For more info go to Apple's site via the link that is provided.
